Dave and Sheryl Gehrls

      Welcome to our ministry website

Whew! That was a fast summer…
The big news is on the family front. Early on August 19th Sandi and Wade presented us with twin grandsons #8 & #9.

Another special milestone this summer was taking my grandsons Caleb and Peter on the canoe trip.

Check out the sections at the lower left.

Sheryl has made another career change!

Tijuana Pastor “Cuco” Gonzalez, who is part of the local CFCI Base team, started a unique evangelistic outreach. Two years ago, the Lord led him to print some tickets and go out into the streets of Tijuana on Halloween night. He took tickets and a big bag of candy with him, giving the tickets to crowds of children. He also told them if they brought their parents to the church in a half hour, they could get a bag of candy, too! He had 40 bags, but 80 people showed up, and several accepted the Lord!

A year ago, 80 Tijuana churches joined in and 50,000 crowded into those churches for music, drama and the Gospel. Pastor Cuco did five shows in his church with 1200 coming, 130 accepted the Lord and 80 of those are still attending his church a year later.

We brought Pastor Cuco to Omaha last week to share this outreach possibility with local Hispanic churches. Several are going to try it here this Halloween. This is not just a Halloween alternative for Christian kids, but rather brings people out of the darkness that night into God’s marvelous light.

About Dave & Sheryl

Special invitation from the Tijuana Evangelical Alliance

Last spring leaders of The Evangelical Pastors Alliance along with several government officials surprised me with a barbecue to thank me for the years of service in Tijuana. They then invited me to keynote their pastors’ and wives’ retreat in November and bring a ministry team with me. This will be an amazing opportunity to minister to several hundred pastors and wives.

Here we are with Luis, one of the first evangelicals elected to the Tijuana City Council. If all the State Department details get worked out we are working on a Leadership conference at Tijuana City hall for Jan-Feb which will include Omaha leaders and Congressional-Senate leaders from the USA.

Family News:

TWINS!

Early on August 19th Sandi and Wade presented us with twin grandsons #8 & #9: Brock Lewis & Reid Lee Anderson. Sandi was in labor over 36 hours before the boys were delivered by C-section.

They were five weeks early but weighed 6 lbs. 9 oz., and 6 lbs. 4 oz. respectively. Both were 21” tall and have long fingers and big feet! Reid was in the NICU for one day, but both are healthy and strong and went home on day four.

Yes, you can tell them apart! Brock was born first, and his hair and skin are a little darker. His face is a little more oval shaped compared to Reid's rounder little face and more reddish hair. Click here to see the photo album.

Another special milestone this summer was taking my grandsons Caleb and Peter on the canoe trip.

During the 33 years we’ve led these trips, we’ve taken nearly a thousand campers into the Boundary Waters! Our kids grew up in canoes, and I dreamed of the day I could take my grandkids.

I’m done chasing teenagers through the woods these days and have downsized the groups to what I can fit in my eight canoes…and I am focusing on parent-child trips instead of youth groups.

September 2008,

God Continues to Bless Prayer In The Streets:

As we prayerwalk high crime areas, it is not uncommon to have people come out of their homes and thank us, but in the last few prayerwalks the response has been remarkable as God is blessing prayer in the streets.

The Lord led me two years ago to mobilize believers in prayer outside church walls...to help get the “Salt” out of the “Saltshaker.” Our primary prayer goal has been to reduce the violence on Omaha’s streets. A year ago, the news headlines shouted “31 Shootings in 31 Days!” for the month of August. In August 2008, we completed our first year of intentional prayerwalks and saw a significant reduction in violence. Mayor Fahey just thanked us and other groups and announced that for a 35 day time this summer no one was shot and killed in Omaha. God answers prayer!

Each time we go into the streets to pray, moms, dads, teens and children come out of their homes to join us in prayer. We’ve had police get out of their cars and join the prayer circle. People driving by have parked their cars and joined. It’s not uncommon to see our prayer teams standing in the street praying with people as tears freely flow, encouraging them and letting them know they’re not alone.

Residents in several areas where gunshots are heard almost every night report that following our second or third prayerwalk in their area, it is definitely more peaceful.

For many years people came to the church altar to encounter God. God has now moved that altar into the streets. That’s where His heart is, and He wants us, “the Salt,” out of the “Saltshaker.”

Fall 2008,  Focusing Leaders Class:

In May we finished a wonderful EMI (Emerging Ministries Institute) Focusing Leaders Class in Lincoln, NE.  Whenever we have four to eight leaders interested we schedule another class. In the fall of 2008 I plan to do a full eight month Focusing Leaders Network and at least one intensive.   See Brochure...
